Yet another MK-12 transmitter from Energy Onix. This old 600 watt FD solid state IPA unit was only putting out about 375 watts on a good day. I never really cared for their design on this IPA stage anyway, so we upgraded it to a broadband 1000watt. And as with most MK-12 transmitters, it was barely putting out 10.5Kwatts.
Rear of the MK-12 transmitter with the old IPA and power supplies. It was quite the ordeal to remove all the old wiring from the harness and get everything back together neatly, but it was well worth it.
Old IPA, power supplies and emergency control panel removed. We also cleaned the entire inside of the transmitter, PA box and HV cabinet.
We installed a new Energy Onix 1000 watt solid state broadband transmitter that we converted for use as the new IPA. We also rebuilt the control panel and moved it's location in the rack.
It was pretty straight forward after getting things cleaned up and a few cables made.
Replacing the old 600 watt IPA with the 1000 watt unit gave the 3CX10000-A7 tube more input power to work with so it didn't have to work as hard to deliver 12 Kwatts out.
Once all the panels were back in place, it only took about an hour to balance the new IPA to the PA and re-tune the transmitter. At full power the ol' MK-12 was making over 15Kwatts out, but we only needed 12Kwatts.
